WORKING CAT ADOPTION
Working Cats
Working cats are cats who are not appropriate for home adoption but thrive in suitable indoor/outdoor homes, such as barns, stables and warehouses. We do not actively accept cats into this program. Instead, this program offers cats who are deemed not appropriate for home life another
route to adoption.
From time to time, Humane Society for Boone County (HSforBC) has healthy working cats. All cats are spayed/neutered, ear tipped, and vaccinated. You will need to provide daily food and water, protection from the elements and long-term care. After a short period of secure confinement, the cats should accept their new barn home.
In return for your care, working cats will help keep rodents away from grain and food storage areas. Not only will you enjoy watching these cats work, you will be providing them with a much needed home.
Because these cats are already spayed or neutered, you won’t have to worry about litters of kittens!

How to AdoptTo adopt a dog, puppy, cat or kitten from the Humane Society for Boone County (HSforBC) potential adopters must be at least 18 years old.
In order to be eligible to adopt from HSforBC, we require all members of the household (two-foot and four-foot) to meet the animal prior to adoption. Please fill out the Meet and Greet form to the right on this page to schedule an appointment to meet the pet of your dreams. An appointment is scheduled in the order the request is received online, the date the potential adopter chooses for the meeting, the animal’s status and availability of the volunteer. Requests to meet high demand animals may result in a delayed response as multiple requests are processed by the volunteer canine or feline program director. Your request is important and HSforBC appreciates your patience. A Meet and Greet appointment is not a reservation and does not guarantee that you will be able to adopt the dog or cat. HSforBC reserves the right to refuse any adoption that is not in the best interest of the animal based on our principles, policies and standards. Adoption opportunities for qualified adopters are on a first come/first served basis, especially if your requested meeting time is more than 24 hours from the response. HSforBC foster dogs, puppies, cats and kittens are altered, receive age appropriate vaccinations, and microchipped. Dogs are tested for Heartworm Disease. Kittens and cats are tested for FELV FIV disease. |
