Choosing a pet is a very personal and lifelong decision. We do not allow pets to be adopted as gifts unless the dog or cat is a gift to dependent children living in the same home.
Do my pets at home need to be up to date on vaccinations before adding a new pet?
It is in the best health interest to make sure all of your pets are current on vaccinations before adding a new pet to your household. In fact, HSforBC often checks veterinarian records before making final adoption decisions to assure the pet will be well cared for in each and every home.
Do my current pets have to be spayed/neutered
before I adopt?
before I adopt?
Because so many animals are euthanized in shelters each year, HSforBC requires all existing animals in a home to be spayed or neutered before adding in a new pet. The exception is a veterinarian’s documentation stating why it is not in your pet’s best health interest to be altered.
