CAT ADOPTION
Adoptable Cats
(by appointment only)

How to Adopt

Please schedule a meet and greet to meet any of our adoptable animals. We have a physically small shelter and not every animal available is housed at the shelter. Chances are very good - the one you want to meet is actually off-site in a foster home. We are unable to process walk-in adoptions.

To adopt a dog, puppy, cat or kitten from the Humane Society for Boone County (HSforBC) potential adopters must be at least 18 years old.

In order to be eligible to adopt from HSforBC, we require all members of the household (two-foot and four-foot) to meet the animal prior to adoption. Please fill out the Meet and Greet form to the right on this page to schedule an appointment to meet the pet of your dreams.

An appointment is scheduled in the order the request is received online, the date the potential adopter chooses for the meeting, the animal’s status and availability of the volunteer.

Requests to meet high demand animals may result in a delayed
response as multiple requests are processed by the volunteer canine
or feline program director. Your request is important and HSforBC
appreciates your patience.

A Meet and Greet appointment is not a reservation and does not guarantee that you will be able to adopt the dog or cat. HSforBC reserves the right to refuse any adoption that is not in the best interest of the animal based on our principles, policies and standards. Adoption opportunities for qualified adopters are on a first come/first served basis, especially if your requested meeting time is more than 24 hours from the response.

HSforBC foster dogs, puppies, cats and kittens are altered, receive age appropriate vaccinations, and microchipped. Dogs are tested for Heartworm Disease. Kittens and cats are tested for FELV FIV disease.

Meet & Greet Online Form

All fields with a * are required and an answer must be supplied.  Type "none" if the field does not apply. You will receive a confirmation message once your application has been completed fully and properly. IF YOU DO NOT SEE A SUBMISSION PROMPT, WE DID NOT RECEIVE YOUR APPLICATION. All meet and greets are by appointment only, please complete this form to schedule.
It is understood that the Humane Society for Boone County (HSforBC) is the rightful owner of the meet & greet animal until such time that it is approved for adoption. It is also understood that a friendly animal, once in your home, may show aggressive or unpredictable behavior. It is your responsibility to monitor the animal for the safety of your family as well as the animal's welfare.
If for any reason you decide that the animal is not going to fit into your home, you must notify HSforBC and keep the animal safe until such time as arrangements can be made for pick up or return.

You agree to hold the HSforBC and its agents harmless for any loss or injury you, or your family, may receive during the course of your meet & greet. There are certain risks inherent in handling animals and it is understood you accept those risks. If an accident or injury should occur, no matter how minor, you must notify HSforBC.

It is your decision and responsibility to seek any necessary medical attention. HSforBC is not responsible for any medical bills you may incur due to injury during your meet & greet time.
