Rehoming a Pet
Are you needing to find a new home for your pet? Would you prefer to choose the new home yourself rather than bringing it to the shelter? There is a great option with Adoptapet.com. The Adoptapet.com website keeps animals out of overcrowded shelters and gives pet owners total decision control when choosing their pet's new loving home. Visit Adopt-a-Pet.com
The Humane Society for Boone County is extremely limited on space. We ask that you consider us as a last option when it comes to rehoming a pet, and instead pursue these other options if you need to find a new loving home for your family dog or cat.
Create a flyer with a good photo of your pet and include the following information:
You may or may not decide to ask for a rehoming fee (small fees may protect your pet from going to a dog fighting ring or other bad people). You may decide to send a crate, bowls, food, favorite toys and blankets or any medicines to the new adopter. Add this info to your flyer.
Post your flyer anywhere that will allow you to do so, such as your work, office, church, local stores, local vets, etc. E-mail your flyer to family, friends, co-workers, etc. and ask that everyone who receives your message passes it on to everyone they know.
Post your flyer on any social network sites you use (Facebook, Twitter), and be sure to post it on the “Friends of Humane Society for Boone County” Facebook group. If you are not already a member, ask to be added.
Free Ads are available (as long you don’t ask for a fee of any kind):
Remember – you know your pet best. You will be the most honest and best advocate to placing your pet in a furever home. If your pet has a bite history you need to share that. An informed new home is more likely to be a furever home.
